Exercise 1: Configure Windows Mobile Phone Settings
Objective: Learn how to configure and manage mobile device settings using Windows Mobile Device Center and a Windows Mobile 6 virtual machine.
Task 1: Connecting to Windows 7 Virtual Machine via Hyper-V
Connect to Server 2019 VM Virtual Machine
- Begin by connecting to the PLABDM01 virtual machine.
Access Hyper-V Manager
- After logging in, open the Hyper-V Manager.
Locate and Connect to Windows 7 VM (Windows 7 VM)
- From the Hyper-V dashboard, locate the PLABWIN701 (Windows 7 virtual machine).
- Connect to the Windows 7 VM.
Log In to Windows 7
- Follow the steps to log in to the PLABWIN701 device.
Reflection:
- Document the process of connecting to the virtual machine and any challenges encountered.
Task 2: Launching and Configuring Windows Mobile Device Center
Open Windows Mobile Device Center
- Click the Start button and locate the Windows Mobile Device Center application.
- Launch the application.
Agree to License Terms
- Agree to the license terms and conditions upon launching the application.
Verify Initial Connection Settings
- Review the initial connection settings and ensure the default settings are correctly configured.
Reflection:
- Note any adjustments made to the default settings.
Task 3: Launching the Device Emulator Manager and Standalone Emulator
Open Windows Mobile 6 SDK
- From the Start menu, search for Windows Mobile 6 SDK.
- Navigate to the Tools folder.
Launch Device Emulator Manager
- Locate and launch the Device Emulator Manager from the Tools folder.
- Leave the application running in the background.
Launch Standalone Emulator Images
- In the Start menu, search for Windows Mobile 6 SDK and navigate to the Standalone Emulator Images folder.
- Select and launch VM 6.1.4 Professional.
Ensure Both Applications are Running
- Confirm that both the Device Emulator Manager and VM 6.1.4 Professional are running and ready for the next steps.

- Verify the emulator’s performance and functionality.
Task 4: Refreshing and Cradling the Windows Mobile 6 VM
Refresh the Device Emulator Manager
- Click the Refresh button in the Device Emulator Manager to locate the Windows Mobile 6 virtual machine.
Cradle the Virtual Device
- Once the device name appears, right-click and select Cradle from the dropdown menu.
Configure the Mobile Device
- Go to the File tab and select Configure to begin configuring the mobile device.

Task 5: Configuring Network Settings on Windows Mobile 6 VM
Set Initial Network Settings
- Configure and save the initial network settings.
Access Settings Menu
- Click the Start button and select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Navigate to Network Cards
- In the Settings menu, go to the Connections tab and select Network Cards.
Select Network Adapter
- Choose the NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver from the list of network adapters.
Configure Network Settings
- Enter the following:
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
- DNS
- Save the configuration to complete the setup.

Task 6: Verifying Network Connection and Browser Setup
Close Network Settings
- Close the settings windows after finalizing the network configuration.
Confirm Internet Connection
- Open the mobile browser on the Windows Mobile 6 virtual machine to verify internet connectivity.
Check Browser Type
- Confirm the type of mobile browser used on the Windows Mobile 6 VM.
